Penggunaan Used To Infinitive| Be Used To| Dan Would Infinitive.

Dalam bahasa Inggris , saat kita ingin membicarakan wacana kebiasaan atau acara yang berulang-ulang di periode kemudian , kita sanggup menggunakan sebutan “used to + infinitive” yang menunjukan bahwa acara atau pernyataan tersebut terjadi di periode lampau. Selain itu , kita juga sanggup menggunakan “would + infinitive” untuk tujuan yang sama.

Tetapi ada perbedaan antara keduanya yakni kita sanggup menggunakan “used to + infinitive” untuk menyampaikan sebuah pernyataan di periode lampau yang tidak lagi berlaku akan namun kita tidak sanggup menggunakan “would + infinitive” untuk mengungkapkan pernyataan itu.

Misalnya , untuk menyampaikan “dia dahulu mempunyai rambut panjang” maka sebutan yang paling sesuai digunakan merupakan “She used to have long hair” bukan “She would have long hair”.

Used to + Infinitive

Example :

1. (+) She used to wake up early. (but now she doesn’t wake up early)
   (-) She didn’t use to wake up early.
   (?) Did she use to wake up early?
2. (+) He used to eat cereal for breakfast.
   (-) He didn’t use to eat cereal for breakfast.
   (?) Did he use to eat cereal for breakfast?
3. (+) Your brother used to go to the movies.
   (-) Your brother didn’t use to go to the movies.
   (?) Did your brother use to go to the movies?
4. (+) My mother used to have long hair.
   (-) My mother didn’t use to have long hair.
   (?) Did my mother use to have long hair?
5. (+) I used to see my grandmother on monday.
   (-) I didn’t use to see my grandmother on monday.
   (?) Did I use to see my grandmother on monday?

Ingat :
Pada kalimat negatif dan interrogatif , “used to” berganti jadi “use to”.

Be Used to + Verb-ing

Ungkapan ini digunakan untuk mengungkapkan sesuatu acara yang kita telah sudah biasa melakukannya.
Example :

1. (+) I am used to going to my school on foot , it is not too far for me.
   (-) I am not used to going to my school on foot , it is too far for me.
   (?) Are you used to going to your school on foot?
2. (+) He is used to sleeping late at night , so he doesn’t mind doing it.
   (-) He isn’t used to sleeping late at night , so he gets hard doing it.
   (?) Is he used to sleeping late at night?

Would + Infinitive

Example :

1. (+) When he was a student , he would go to library on friday.
   (-) When he was a student , he wouldn’t go to library on friday.
   (?) When he was a student , Would he go to library on friday?
2. (+) When my brother lived in Jakarta , he would send me a book twice a month.
   (-) When my brother lived in Jakarta , he wouldn’t send me a book twice a month.
   (?) Would He send me a book twice a month?

Note :
Ungkapan “would + infinitive” biasanya digunakan untuk menceritakan acara di periode lampau akan namun jarang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan sebuah pernyataan menyerupai :
They would live in Medan.
I would have long hair.
She would get a flat nose.
